page 91 # 1 + 2

1.What she finds magically seductive about it is the use of imagination it takes to envision such a world. To contemplate the world of a flea or the view of a giant "all cast spells that take us far beyond the realm of everyday living into exotic landscapes accessible only through the imagination". Cole's essay showed me all the living creatures that inhabit my face and arms and bed that i forgot were even there that are now freaking me out but she also showed me the different ways animals like fleas and flies view the same things that we do. For example, a bug leaning over a puddle is the same as us reaching over a cliff to pick a berry. Something that will change the way i think is the fact that if i was to ever become a giant my bones would shatter with only one step or that a flea is like a mini superman the way it can carry an object 160,000 times its weight and jump really high. I also find it cool how a mouse can survive falling off a cliff where a rat couldn't because of its surface area and size. Knowing that a fly could die if he stepped into my soup makes me feel bad for the guy but in the end i still don't like flies so he can go drown in a puddle. some facts that won't change the way i think are that if a planet was shaped like a teacup it would still change in to a circular planet or that flea superman can't actually fly through the air like a speeding bullet because frankly I've never liked superman so flea superman can go fall in a puddle and planet sizes aren't my main concern.

2. I think Cole ends her essay like that to make the reader grasp the concept of how we can't grasp the concept of the world we can't see to an extent she can't explain but he could. If she had paraphrased the guy instead of quoting his whole paragraph it probably would of looked better because she would have successfully integrated his paragraph creatively with her concept. If she would have ended the essay with the first paragraph i think it would've had a more successful impact on the reader because in the beginning i was like what ? but in the end i would of been like damn you changed my way of thinking. she footnotes Bodanis on page 89, and Humphrey on 86 then she references Haldane on 85,86, and 87, Frost on 88 and Margulis and Sagan on 89.
