sanders tone is very calm but almost annoyed and angry at the same time. for example when he starts going off because some people arent placed theyre inhabitant, it givea the whole essay a different tone ya feel me. if i had to tell someone to read this shit i would tell them to be calm. i find sanders more convincing g because the examples and description he backed all his sht up with really cements the ideas hes trying to put across into the readers mind. whereas ford was dull and unexciting and lacked a voice

he says that staying put gives us a foundation and a sense of community. it makes us grow tronger because staying put makes us go through hell and back to protect our homes and keep adjusting to whatever may happen. he defines being settled as living in a home for a long period of time and being a part of a community. being placed is just living there for a short period of time and still figure shit out. and an inhabitant is just settling in a home for a second then leave soon after. schools, stores, friends , family. each is a very effective example because once one is settled and has everything at their fingertips its hard to make somebody leave so theyre very effective examples. another example is if you grew up in that communtiy or your work is there.

154 seeing 1 and 2
she starts off by telling the reader how her mother never stepped foot inside that store which is ironic because the little girl loved going there. Then she transitions into what would lead the girl to going to the store which was the mother running out of any groceries the man downtown delivered to her. Then she begins to tell the reader of every neighbor shes had as she passes by their house kn her wah to the store. Then recalls her visit there and her trip back. The games she used to play express her feelings towards the store in a positive way because she obviously enjoyed and had a lot of fun taking this adventure to the store and they're memories that are attached to her feelings pf the store. the effects of presenting these paragraphs before the store are that it gives the store a greater meaning and doesnt present it as just some store in the neighborhood. She appeals to my taste because she describes the food and the drinks inside the store and she appeals to my smell because i could almost smell all the food whole she describes it walking down the aisles. in my opinion its like shes smaking everything seem ten times amazing then it really is just like we all did when we were kids and every little step for her on her way to that store was like an adventure.
2. after i read the story i actually saw the picture on the front page and as i was reading the story i tried to picture how the shopkeeper would look like and it was exactly how this guy looks. i pictured an angry looking man, very serious in really traditional shopkeeper clothes just chillen by the door or something waiting to welcome in the next kid or adult that walked through his door. the shadows surrounding him definitly make him look more mysterious and serious and give off a threatning vibe.. in the back of the picture there is a calender of wright and ferguson and some bananas hanging from the window. The man looks tired like hes been doing this all his life but at the same time he looks like a figure that is hard to forget.

seeing 1 and 2
He defines working class as people who get payed per hour. its members can be portrayed by tv characters and all the mainstream obvious jobs we think of when we think of jobs. nurses, mechanics, store workers. homer simson , sitcom guys they all fall under that category. the virtues are that we are popularized in american culture and work hard to get what we deserve. the vices are being looked down upon by everybody with a salary and a stable life. he says its the way were taught to think because everybody needs to get put in a class or box that seperates groups them together with everybody else like them.
2. the working class is included in his essay. his essay is targeted more towards working class white people in my opinion. The paragraph where he talks about nascar and country music would affect the whole essay like crazy if it were changed to target another audience for example if they put something in there to appeal to black working classfamilies where the author states is generaly looked down as poor in this country the point the author was trying to make wouldnt be completely cemented.

he doesnt refer to the third as lower class because i dont think thats the point hes trying to rant on. i think the word working accomplishes a sign of dedication and perserverance whereas lower class gives off a vibe of failure and hope lost. If i had to pick a word to describe the lower class in would use struggling because sometimes there are powers we cant control that prevent us from moving from lower to "working class". Bills, debt, lack of job openings, kids they play heavy factors and sometimes its not our fault. Classes can be divided obviously by money , appearance, material posession because in the world we live in thats all were judged by. i dont know of any other cultures because where my family is from society is mainly like americas. and i shall not.

house by the railroad numbers 1 and 2
1. in house by the railroad hopper directs my attention to the design and structure of the house since he references it's build and characteristics many times. He also directs it to the emptiness of the sky as well as the railroad and earth. I might be wrong but i notice the house has no doors and a crazy amount of windows as if all it wants to do is look out and let no one in. As for it's relationship to it's surroundings it seems out of place because everything is so still and empty and this house is so complex and elegant. My eyes are mostly looking at the amount of windows Edward has taking to painting. The colors Edward chooses to use definitly set the mood and give the viewer a different sense of what Edward is trying to depict rather than if he were to use bright and more lively colors.
2. The emptiness of the sky, The tracks running into the distance, The akwardness of the house. He gives the house a personality by saying it feels akward and ashamed of itself and it's structure. I think it helped because it helper the viewer cement their opinion of the painting because it confirms what i believed he was trying to achieve with setting this beuatiful house in this depressing area. It makes it more interesting because i saw it at a different light rather than if i was just to look at the painting by itself with nothing to form an opinon with.

River of names
I think i really like this story. I say i think because i don't know if what i believe happens is what actually happens. It's all pretty confusing because i don't know anybodys names but this is how i think it goes down. The girl who had the baby, who could be either cora, nancy, or jesse, was in that point of motherhood where she couldn't stand her baby, who i think was called cy. She was annoyed becuase he wouldn't sleep to the point where she was fed up and tired of struggling with him. Despite all the hatred she had towards him though when the car they were travelling to oklahoma in fell in the river she wrapped around her baby, protected him and died with him. I thought that was beautiful because no matter how much stress he was giving her she still protected him like a mother always does. I might be wrong because it might not even be her that died in the river or never fought with the baby in the first place. it doesn't matter because i'm always going to look at it as i explained because that's what hit home harder. I thought it was a great story that showed the perserverance of a struggling mother through highs and lows.
